Christian Fellowship 1996-08-07 - Hand in Hand

This past weekend my family and I went to the beach. My oldest daughter turned eleven on Saturday. To celebrate her birthday, we rented a pontoon boat and set out on a family picnic and adventure. After a 45 minute boat ride up the waterway we anchored off an uninhabited island. My wife and two girls explored the ocean front, while my more adventurous 4 year old son Bobby and I decided to explore the sand dunes and walk among the rocks forming a jetty. Bobby described each sand dune vividly, one was a volcano, one was mountain, and even one was a buried dinosaur! As we walked up, down and through the dunes and rocks a patterned developed between us. As we climbed up, Bobby would reached up to my hand and firmly hold it. As we went down the dunes and along level sand, he would release his grip on my hand. This went on for 20 minutes or more. When he perceived danger, he lifted his little hand up to mine. But when he felt in control, down his hand went. Finally I picked my son up and said, "Son I love holding your hand, lets hold them ALL the time, not just when the going gets tough". He smiled and said "yeah dad, that would be neat". So off we went hand in hand, the love flowed from heart to heart.

God's hand is there for you. He wants to hold your hand ALL the time. He wants to replenish you with HIS love ALL the time. I am so thankful our God is a patience God. All the times I have let go of God and plowed through life thinking I could do it all alone. But, you know, every time I reach up to God, His hand is there. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Jesus put it this way:

Matthew 22:37-38 37 Jesus replied: "`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

Are you doing this? Are you really loving God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind? Or are you like my son, reaching up only when you think you need help? God wants to walk "Hand in Hand" with you.

Dear Lord, thank you for being a patient God. Thank you for always being there. Thank you for never changing. Lord, forgive me for reaching up only when the going gets tough, open my heart to loving you ALL the time. In Jesus name, Amen.

Now, if you have been feeling disconnected from God, if you are lacking feeling HIS love, close your eyes and lift your hands up to our God and pray, Father take my hand, cleanse me of my sins, of my selfishness, of my lack of faith. Father I want to follow the greatest commandment. I want to love you with all my heart, soul, strength and mind.

Feel HIS presence, feel HIS love replenishing you, right here, right now.

God bless You All,
David
