The Small Groups Series, Part 2
Acts 2:46-47 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (NIV)
I have been blessed the past three years with teaching and discipling a group of men in our church. We meet at 6:30am every Tuesday Morning for breakfast, prayer, praises, sharing of trials, and studying the Bible. We are simply trying to learn how to do life right and of course doing life right, is doing life as God wants us to do life. It is very clear that the early Christians did life right. They worshiped in the temples and met in small groups together sharing and praising God. I am firmly convinced that solid, true, deep, life-changing growth in Christ occurs best in a small group environment. For me the Sunday Worship service is a celebration of our growth in Christ; it is the worship of our Holy God.
So now you are saying, "great David, thanks for sharing that, now I have got to get to school, work, etc." Whoa … hang on. What should we be doing? I urge you that if you are not in a small group, a care group, and shepherding group or whatever you want to call it, get into one. If you don't have one at your church, go to your pastor and get busy starting a group.
Now notice the last two sentences of today's verse. "enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Thats the goal folks, building the Kingdom. By living life right, these early Christian enjoyed the favor of all people, and the Kingdom was built and is being built one soul at a time.
Dear Father, we praise You and thank You for the perfect plan You so clearly have laid out for us in your Word. We ask You to forgive us for trying to re-invent Your plan, for complicating Your plan, for interjecting our wills above Your will. Father, I pray that You will use this devotional to open some hearts, so that some people will get together in small groups, and lives will be transformed by Your Awesome power. Help us Father to live life right. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.
