Christian Fellowship Devotionals 1997-05-24 - Questions for Accountability Partners, Part 3

The Small Group Series, Part 5

This is the last in my series on Small Groups and Accountability Partners. My prayer is that some of you have taken the first steps to get involved in a small group, start a group and/or develop a relationship with someone to be accountability partners. Today we will look at a suggested guideline for your weekly "Accountability Checkup" with your partner. However, I strongly believe we should never let a list of questions become a rigid syllabus for all accountability meetings. Let the Holy Spirit guide and direct the meetings.

"The kisses of an enemy may be profuse, but faithful are the wounds of a friend" Proverbs 27:6 (NIV)

This list comes from Patrick Morely's book Getting to know the Man in the Mirr or. Published by Thomas Nelson Publishers. This is an excellent book.

Questions to Start Off the Meeting

  1. How has God blessed you this week? (What went right?)
  2. What problem has consumed your thoughts this week? (What went wrong?)

Spiritual Life

  1. Have you read God's Word daily? (How long? Why not? Will you next week?)
  2. Describe your prayers (for yourself, others, praise, confession, gratitude)
  3. How is your relationship with Christ changing?
  4. How have you been tempted this week? How did you respond?
  5. Do you have any unconfessed sin in your life?
  6. Are you walking in the Spirit?
  7. Did you worship in church this week? (Was your faith in Jesus strengthened? Was He honored?)
  8. Have you shared your faith? In what ways? How can you improve?

Home Life

  1. How is it going with your spouse? (attitudes, time, irritations, disappointments, progress, their relationship with Christ?)
  2. How is it going with the kids? (quantity and quality of time, values and beliefs, education, spiritual welfare and warfare)
  3. How are your finances going? (debts, sharing, saving, stewardship)

Work Life

  1. How are things going on the job? (career progress, relationships, temptations, work load, stress, problems, working too much)

Critical Concerns

  1. Do you feel you are in the center of God's will? Do you sense His peace?
  2. What are you wrestling with in your thought life?
  3. What have you done for someone else this week? (helping the poor, offering encouragement, providing service)
  4. Are your priorities in the right order?
  5. Is your moral and ethical behavior what it should be?
  6. How are you doing in your personal high-risk area?
  7. Are the "visible" you and the "real" you consistent in this relationship?

Close with Prayer.

Thats it. I pray all of you can develop an accountability relationship.
