[e-Devotionals]1997-09-21 - Greed

This week I had to confront a business partner with what I felt was greed clouding his decisions with a real estate venture. The bible is very clear about how God feels about greed. The meeting turned out very well, when armed with the Truth, you will prevail.

Is 57:17 I was enraged by his sinful greed; I punished him, and hid my face in anger, yet he kept on in his willful ways. (NIV)

Mt 23:25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. (NIV)

Luke 12:15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (NIV)

Pr 1:19 All greedy people end up this way; greed kills selfish people. (NCV)

Pr 30:15 “Greed has two daughters named ‘Give’ and ‘Give.’ There are three things that are never satisfied, really four that never say, ‘I’ve had enough!’ (NCV)

Pr 11:6 The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the treacherous will be caught by their own greed. (NASB)

Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,  (NASB)

Eph 5:3 But do not let immorality or any impurity or greed even be named among you, as is proper among saints; (NASB)

Col 3:5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. (NASB)

1 Th 2:5 For we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—God is witness (NASB)

2 Pe 2:3 and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. (NASB)

Pr 28:25 Greed causes fighting; trusting the Lord leads to prosperity. (NASB)

Hab 2:5 Wealth is treacherous, and the arrogant are never at rest. They range far and wide, with their mouths opened as wide as death, but they are never satisfied. In their greed they have gathered up many nations and peoples. (NLT)

Dear Father, Forgive us for our greed. Help us to be sensitive to all forms of greed. Give us your strength, your wisdom, and your courage to resist the temptation of greed. Father, thank you So much for your greed-less and self-less Son Jesus, who gave ALL for us, in His precious name, Amen.
