[e-Devotionals]1997-10-08 - Love God, Love People

All verses today are from The Living Bible, (Wheaton, Ill.: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1997.

2 John 6 If we love God, we will do whatever he tells us to. And he has told us from the very first to love each other.

Psalms 36:7 How precious is your constant love, O God! All humanity takes refuge in the shadow of your wings.

My five-year-old son and I went for a walk a few nights ago. As we were walking along, he pointed to the sky and said, "God is up there." I said, "yes Bobby, God is up there, God is down here too. He said, 'In the grass?'" "Yes." "In the trees?" "Yes." "In the mailboxes?" LOL "Yes son, God is everywhere. But mostly He is in our hearts, God is inside of us because we believe in Jesus Christ." Bobby looked up at me a said "Dad, God is big and God loves us." I said "yes son, God is big and you know how much He loves you? God loves you SO much that He can't take His eyes off of you." Funny how God ministers to us through other people. I would have never thought my five-year-old could minister to me. But he did. The look of wonderment and amazement in his little blue eyes of learning just how big God is and just how much God loves him, took me back to when I first believed. It renewed my appreciation for God. It strengthened my faith and love for God.

So, God loves us. What do we do with that love? We are to love God and love People. Simple saying … yet profoundly true. It's a bottom-line truth. It is a core value that all of us Christians should have and be willing to stand for at anytime under any circumstance.

Acts 14:22 where they helped the believers to grow in love for God and each other. They encouraged them to continue in the faith in spite of all the persecution, reminding them that they must enter into the Kingdom of God through many tribulations.

Are you an encouragement to others to love God and love people? Can others look at your life and think, "that person loves God and loves people?" Are you happy?

2 Corinthians 13:11 I close my letter with these last words: Be happy. Grow in Christ. Pay attention to what I have said. Live in harmony and peace. And may the God of love and peace be with you.

1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us practice loving each other, for love comes from God and those who are loving and kind show that they are the children of God, and that they are getting to know him better.

1 John 4:12 For though we have never yet seen God, when we love each other God lives in us, and his love within us grows ever stronger.

1 John 4:16 We know how much God loves us because we have felt his love and because we believe him when he tells us that he loves us dearly. God is love, and anyone who lives in love is living with God and God is living in him.

Dear Lord, Help us to have that childlike faith again. Help us to remember what it was like when we first believed. Help us to gain back the awesome feeling of love that swept over us when we first understood just how big You are and just how much You love us. Lord. Help us to love the hard-to-love. Help us to encourage others to love You more and love people more. We praise you and thank you Father for your unconditional love that gave us saving grace through your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Who died for us, Whose love for us held Him to a wooden cross, we thank you for the most awesome love story ever written. It was written in blood on an old rugged cross two thousand years ago. In His precious name, Amen.
