[e-Devotionals] 1997-12-10 - Who Can Fill These Sandals, Part 2

In my local paper this morning, the top story was how three counterfeit one hundred dollar bills have turned up in my small town. That's big news around here, folks! The police officer interviewed was trying to explain to the reporter what to look for in counterfeit money. I thought, "gee, why not just tell us what a real hundred dollar bill should look like, because the real ones never change." The real Messiah never changes either. I am not big into studying the various cults, false teachers, etc. I love studying the real thing, Jesus. So today we will look at some more fulfilments of prophecy that Jesus filled.

His name will be Jesus:

Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Jesus in Hebrew is the word Yeshua, which means "Savior" or "Salvation." Yeshua is derived from the word Yashah which means "to save, deliver, preserve, bring salvation, get victory."

He is to be the Only Begotten Son of God and God is to be His father:

Psalm 2:2 The kings of the earth prepare to fight, and their leaders make plans together against the LORD and his appointed one.

Psalm 2:6-7 He says, "I have appointed my own king to rule in Jerusalem on my holy mountain, Zion." Now I will tell you what the LORD has declared: He said to me, "You are my son. Today I have become your father.

John 1:14 The Word became a human and lived among us. We saw his glory-the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father-and he was full of grace and truth.

Acts 13:33 God has made this promise come true for us, his children, by raising Jesus from the dead.'You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.'

Psalm 89:26-27 He will say to me, 'You are my father, my God, the Rock, my Savior.' 27 I will make him my firstborn son, the greatest king on earth.

Mark 14:36 He prayed, "Abba, Father! You can do all things. Take away this cup of suffering. But do what you want, not what I want."

Hebrews 1:1-2 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets many times and in many different ways.2 But now in these last days God has spoken to us through his Son. God has chosen his Son to own all things, and through him he made the world.

He is to be a Prophet like Moses:

Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD your God will give you a prophet like me, who is one of your own people. Listen to him.

John 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the man that Moses wrote about in the law, and the prophets also wrote about him. He is Jesus, the son of Joseph, from Nazareth."

He is to be anointed by the Holy Spirit:

Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest upon that king. The Spirit will give him wisdom and understanding, guidance and power. The Spirit will teach him to know and respect the LORD.

Matthew 3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. Then heaven opened, and he saw God's Spirit coming down on him like a dove.

He is to preach and teach in the Temple:

Malachi 3:1 The LORD All-Powerful says, "I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way for me. Suddenly, the Lord you are looking for will come to his Temple; the messenger of the agreement, whom you want, will come."

Luke 4:16 Jesus traveled to Nazareth, where he had grown up. On the Sabbath day he went to the synagogue, as he always did, and stood up to read.

John 7:28 Jesus, teaching in the Temple, cried out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. But I have not come by my own authority. I was sent by the One who is true, whom you don't know.

He is to speak in Parables:

Psalm 78:2-4 I will speak using stories; I will tell secret things from long ago. 3 We have heard them and known them by what our ancestors have told us. 4 We will not keep them from our children; we will tell those who come later about the praises of the LORD. We will tell about his power and the miracles he has done.

Matthew 13:34-35 Jesus used stories to tell all these things to the people; he always used stories to teach them.35 This is as the prophet said: "I will speak using stories; I will tell things that have been secret since the world was made."

He will heal the sick, set the captives free and preach deliverance:

Isaiah 61:1-2 The Lord GOD has put his Spirit in me, because the LORD has appointed me to tell the good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts are broken, to tell the captives they are free, and to tell the prisoners they are released. He has sent me to announce the time when the LORD will show his kindness and the time when our God will punish evil people. He has sent me to comfort all those who are sad

Matthew 4:23 Jesus went everywhere in Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News about the kingdom of heaven, and healing all the people's diseases and sicknesses.

His message will not be believed:

Isaiah 53:1 Who would have believed what we heard? Who saw the LORD's power in this?

John 12:37-38 Though Jesus had done many miracles in front of the people, they still did not believe in him.38 This was to bring about what Isaiah the prophet had said: "Lord, who believed what we told them? Who saw the Lord's power in this?"

Dear Father, the more we study your Word, the more we See Jesus on every page of Your Word. We ask that You continue to increase in us the hunger not only to know about your Son Jesus, but to more importantly know Him personally. Thank you Father for giving us your unchanging Word to guide us and instruct us. Mostly we thank you for your Son Jesus who delivers us and saves us. In the name of Yeshua our Messiah , Amen.

David
