[PC-USA] 2000-05-28 - God as Our Shield

Passages about God, Part 4

Sometimes we feel we are being attacked and overcome by Satan. But God, our Shield, is always more powerful than our enemy. Sometimes God is our physical Shield, providing deliverance in this world. However, He will always be our spiritual Shield. If we depend on His strength, we can always conquer Satan. When our valiant soldiers fight in wars to preserve lives and freedom, there is no guarantee of victory. But with God as our Shield, the triumph against Satan is always certain. All passages about God as Shield are from the New Century Version of the Bible. (NCV)

1 John 4:4 My dear children, you belong to God and have defeated them; because God's Spirit, who is in you, is greater than the devil, who is in the world.

Eph. 6:12 Our fight is not against people on earth but against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world's darkness, against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly world. 13 That is why you need to put on God's full armor. Then on the day of evil you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight, you will still be standing. 14 So stand strong, with the belt of truth tied around your waist and the protection of right living on your chest. 15 On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong. 16 And also use the Shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows of the Evil One.

Psa. 3:3 But, Lord, you are my Shield, my wonderful God who gives me courage.

Psa. 5:12 Lord, you bless those who do what is right; you protect them like a soldier's Shield.

Psa. 84:10 One day in the courtyards of your Temple is better than a thousand days anywhere else. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the Temple of my God than live in the homes of the wicked. 11 The Lord God is like a sun and Shield; the Lord gives us kindness and honor. He does not hold back anything good from those whose lives are innocent.

Psa. 91:4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you can hide. His truth will be your Shield and protection.
