2000-06-12 - Bind Up The Brokenhearted
The Prophecy Fulfilled Series, Part 17
Isaiah 61:1,2 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives, and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn.
Luke 4:18,19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.
How wonderful are these verses. What comfort they bring to the Christian. The Lord Jesus Christ brings release, freedom, liberty, good news, comfort, and recovery to the afflicted, brokenhearted, captive, blind, downtrodden, poor and mourning sinner. Christ offers healing for all our struggles. He offers sanctuary to those who need shelter. He gives refuge to those who have no where else to turn.
So many Christians struggle with particular issues of life. It often may seem that these truths of comfort from Scripture are, in fact, not a reality. Many Christians struggle with health issues that are debilitating. Many struggle with addictive habits that choke all the joy from life. Many Christians live as if they had no victory from those things that tempt and rule them.
Since this is true for many, where is the freedom? Where is the release?
Where is the liberty? When is this favorable year of the Lord? Well, I can
not address everything specifically here, but in general there are two ways
that the favorable year of the Lord is here.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
