[CF Devotionals] 2004-07-03 - The Wages of Sin

Open The Door, Part 2

Turn with me to Romans, Chapter 6

  1. Sin - How many have sinned? All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.

  2. The Wages of Sin

Read with me verse 23 of Romans Chapter 6.

Romans 6:23 says the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.

Did you know we are all walking dead people? We have been condemned to die because of our sin, because it separates us from God.

We do good works, but are we doing them to try to save ourselves, to gain a point in Heaven? Are we trying to work to save ourselves, hoping that the work we do will get us into Heaven? Do we believe that God will allow us in to Heaven just because we are good people?

Did you know that even our good works done in our strength is sin? The Prophet Isaiah said in chapter 64:6, "All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away."

Our good works are not a ticket to Heaven; in fact, they have just the opposite effect. If we believe we are going to enter into Heaven on our own merit, or in our own way, we are greatly mistaken, because the wages of sin is death.

Turn in your Bible with me to the book of John, Chapter 3.

  1. Sin - All have sinned.

  2. Wages - The wages of sin is death.

  3. Born Again

Read with me verse 3 of John, Chapter 3

John 3:3 Jesus replied "I assure you: Unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

What has to happen for someone to see the kingdom of God?

    He must be born again.

What does this mean? The term "born again" comes from the Greek word "Anothen," which is where we derive our word "another." It means anew, or regeneration.

So "born again" means that someone has to be made anew.

How did we become old, that we needed to be made anew? It was from sin. Remember, Isaiah said we "we shrivel up like a leaf." We are walking dead people, seperated from God because of our sin, which came from a lie that we choose to believe, which is "We can have it our way" "We don't need God" "We're just like God."

In some cult religions they believe that we will become gods just like the Almighty, we just have to live good lives, and then we will get to be god over our own planet.

We chose to believe in ourselves, instead of seeking, believing and trusting God.

To be born again, we must change our minds. We must realize that we have sinned, and that a Holy God is calling to, and wants us to turn back to Him and be made A-new and restored to a right relationship with Him.

My friend, we will continue with Part Three in the next devotional.

God Bless You,
