The Seven Deadly Sins Series, Part 7
Finally, we come to the sin from this list that is more hated by God than those at the top of some of our lists. Many of us couldn't fairly be accused of gluttony or spiritual apathy or some other sins. If you are taking the time to read this, you obviously care about your spiritual life. But ironically, that can make us more prone to succumb to another powerful sin - pride.
Our Lord Christ spent a lot of his time combatting pride in religious leaders. What comes to your mind when you hear the word pride? How about your own face? If a jury were trying you for pride, would they find enough evidence to convict you? What would that evidence look like?
Do you look at other people judgmentally, i.e. "she shouldn't be buying candy? She's fat!"
Do you refuse to accept help from others?
Do you think your political views are the only right ones?
Do you embellish stories about yourself?
Do you think you don't need to worry about certain sins?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are proud.
It's been my experience, in my own life as well as others', that this is probably the sin that many of us Christians give into most often, as well as the one we are the blindest to. If we are gluttons, it will likely show up in our waistlines. If we fall prey to lust often, our marriages will be in trouble, and we will avoid those people and places that will remind us of God's will. If our Achilles' Heel is explosive anger, our relationship problems will show it. But pride can sneak up on us.
I encourage you to ask God to show you pockets of pride in your life, and to help you overcome them.
