[CF Devotionals] 2006-07-21 - Some Potential, Huh?

1 Samuel 10:1, 6-12

The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you.(Verses 6-7)

What a calling Saul had to look forward to. Saul had three things going for him: supernatural favor, status, and progress. When the prophet Samuel anointed him as king of Israel, Samuel made sure Saul knew this was God's appointment and not his. He enlightened Saul that once the Sprit of God came upon him, he would prophesy and feel like a new person. Then Saul would have God to guide him in the decision-making process. He could make a decision without any afterthoughts.

Samuel's words were just that, words, until God changed Saul's attitude. Only when Saul changed his outlook, and began to believe the best about himself, were God's prophesies fulfilled. People who knew of Saul's background and past where amazed at how he had changed, once God got a hold of him.

The same can be said of you. There is no need to base your present or future on your past. When you give your life over to God, He doesn't keep a record of your wrongs nearby. He focuses on your potential, and the wonderful expectations He has for you. Imagine how much happier we could be, if we focused on the same.

Heavenly Father, Point me in the right direction so I won't have to live with any regrets. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
