2009-02-15 - A Good Role Model
As someone who has been involved in the Criminal Justice System for seven years through a District Attorney's Office, I normally wouldn't condone lawbreaking. But on this day, Saint Valentine's Day, I'm reminded of the reason we are celebrating: Legend has it that Saint Valentine was a Bishop in Ancient Rome (approximately 269 A.D.), who was put to a torturous death, for marrying Christian couples, in violation of the then-current Roman law.
He also is credited with showing love, like Christ, to those who many see as "untouchables" at that time, such as people with epilepsy (which of course we now know is a medical condition just as is diabetes, and one of my good friends has it).
Not everyone reading this has a spouse or even a boyfriend or girlfriend . But we all have people in our lives that we love or should love, and if this man could give his life in the name of love - the least we can all do is remind our family and friends - or those that don't hear "the L word" a lot, that we love them! It just might "make their day!"
1 Corinthians 13:13 But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love. (The Message)
