[CF Devotionals] 2009-04-10 - TGIGF

It is on this day about a couple thousand years ago that a man named Jesus, a carpenter turned prophet, was arrested and handed over to religious authorities. It is on this day that those religious leaders falsely tried him and persuaded the Romans in power to crucify him. It is on this day that this Jesus of Nazareth was brutally tortured multiple times. It is on this day that he was whipped with a cat of nine tails, spat upon, mocked, and punched. And they call this day "Good Friday"! What's so good about Good Friday?

Well you see that was no ordinary man - that was the Son of God who had become flesh thirty-three years earlier. For thirty-three years he had known this day would come and certainly he didn't think it was good. He begged his Father in heaven to let the cup pass from him. But it didn't. That is why it was good.

It is by his crucifixion that our sin debt was paid. That is good for us. And it was because of his death that we have Easter. When he rose he showed that he could raise us too. That also is good for us.

So let's all thank God it's Good Friday! And an even better Sunday is coming..
