2009-09-22 - Drainage
As I write this, a good deal of Metro Atlanta is dealing with a "100-year flood," with some areas receiving 20 inches of rain in less than a day, homes, cars - and sadly people - washed away. Please pray for all affected. Many have been evacuated from their homes in boats, as rain continues to fall at the rate of an inch per hour, and I have found myself pondering how thankful I am that our neighborhood is so well-drained - especially considering I live in the "country," and we have several bodies of water in the area.
While we have had overall less rain than the worst-afflicted areas, there is another factor at play, as well. Our county has faithfully cleaned out strom drains. Such regular maintenance ensures that there is good drainage when deluges do hit.
Likewise, our lives should be well-drained. They can become clogged up with tenaciously sinful habits, with worries, with anger ... But the good news is that God is willing to drain our hearts and lives every day.
Lamentations 3:22-23 .....His compassions never fail; they are new every morning.
Every day, we can confess our sins, and seek his help in preventing clogs, and keeping the waters of grace and peace flowing freely.
