2009-09-25 - Good Times and Bad
This week I celebrated my 20th birthday. Next month I will celebrate my 38th.
(Read John 3 to understand how that is possible). This week, my older son
and I have been sick. Many people around where I live have been flooded out
of homes, work, and school. My county was fortunate to be spared from the
record rains but I know of people who were affected - family and coworkers.
It has been a week of good times and bad. For some reason this passage of
scripture came to mind.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NKJV)
-
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
-
A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
-
A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
-
A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
-
A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
-
A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
-
A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
-
A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.
There is a season of sickness and a season of health, lows and highs, bad
times and good. But I am thankful that some of those seasons will one day
be over. But then these passages also came to mind.
Isaiah 33:24 (NIV) - No one living in Zion will say,
"I am ill"; and the sins of those who dwell there will be forgiven.
Revelation 21:4 (NKJV) - And God will wipe away every
tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.
There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.
It is comforting to know that there will be no fevers, aches, chills, coughs,
or even runny noses in Heaven. I am glad to be on my way. What about you?
