[CF Devotionals] 2009-10-05 - Insights from Aquila and Priscilla

Love and Marriage: Bible Style

Acts 18:1-3

By order of Emperor Claudius, Priscilla and Aquila left their home in Rome, Italy. The grounds? Their religious beliefs. Claudius banished all Jewish people from the area. By alienating God's people, in essence, Claudius was alienating God. Why would anyone want to purposely drive a wedge between oneself and God? You would think a powerful ruler would want all the Godly protection, wisdom, and favor he could.

Priscilla and Aquila obeyed the command and left Rome for Corinth, Greece. They made the best of a difficult situation. The two were blessed to find work in their profession of tent making. Priscilla was also fortunate to work with her husband, and see first-hand what he went through on a given day.

When they lived in Rome, the married couple was made to feel ashamed of their heritage and Godly convictions, but by staying in Corinth they met Paul, with whom they were able to share their faith, experiences, and prayer needs. What a comfort to have a fellow believer in one's corner.

Lord, Thank You for giving us people to talk and pray with. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
