2009-10-19 -Insights from Ruth and Boaz
Love and Marriage Bible Style
So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. Then he went to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. (Ruth 4:13 NIV)
The Bible does not go into much detail about their marriage, but outlines how the two met and became one. Every couple's story is different. Ruth and Boaz's is no exception.
When Boaz first met Ruth, he wasn't thinking what kind of wife she would make. When the widowed Ruth met Boaz, she wasn't focused on finding a husband. She was seeking food for herself and for Naomi, her mother-in law. Ruth was devoted to Naomi, and would never leave her stranded.
Because of that dedication, Boaz was impressed (Ruth 2:11-12), and wanted to make sure Ruth was protected in his fields, while she gathered provisions. Ruth was taken by Boaz's kindness.
Boaz didn't try to make things happen between Ruth and himself. When it did, Boaz was shocked that Ruth would even consider him a possible suitor. (Ruth 3:10)
Ruth and Boaz's love was not the romantic type depicted on the movie screen. Theirs was a love more based on gratitude and respect.
Lord, Thank You for creating the perfect mate for me. Let our love continue to grow and improve with each waking day. Bless my love today with Your presence, protection, and wisdom. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
