2010-08-31 - Priorities
Many of us have been agonizing with the loved ones of the Chilean miners who are trapped underground, and will likely be there until Christmas. According to news reports, during previous national disasters, the citizens of Chile (as with many of our countries) have been at odds with each other. But this time, everyone's rallying around the miners, rooting for them, praying for them, and supporting them and their families. It would seem that right now, Chile has its priorities in order.
Isn't that, how we too often are, as well? It takes a devastating event - death of a loved one, terminal illness, near-fatal accident, job loss etc. - to turn our world and priorities upside-down. What is it that keeps you awake at night, tossing and turning? What consumes most of your time and energy? Five years from now, or fifty, will it matter? Are we spending ourselves on the temporary or on the eternal? Let's pray it doesn't take a life-altering event to get our priorities in order.
Matthew 6:33 (NIV) Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you, as well.
