2010-09-20 - The Job of a Fisherman
When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. (Matthew 13:48)
I never pictured the job of sorting fish comparable to the kingdom of Heaven, but there are a few similarities. There are several steps a fisherman has to follow: cast the net, catch, and sort all the fish. When the net is full of fish, the fisherman drags it to the beach and sorts the fish into two piles, acceptable and refuse.
Jesus compared the reject pile to the people left on Earth at the end of the world, in His powerful illustration. Instead of a fisherman sorting fish, angels will sort the remaining people. One group will be Godly, the other wicked - and the wicked ones will be thrown into the lake of fire. The pain will be so terrible that there will be gnashing of teeth. It sounds dreadful. Why would anyone choose to be in that pile? The fish don't have a say on which pile they are cast to. People have a choice. I pray they make the right one.
Lord, Thank You that I have made a commitment to You as my God and Savior. I do not have to worry about being thrown into the lake of fire. I pray for those who need to turn from their evil ways. May they choose You, before it is too late. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Which pile will you be found in?
