2011-05-23 - What Would Urijah Say?
Now Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath Jearim was another man who prophesied in the name of the LORD; he prophesied the same things against this city and this land as Jeremiah did. (Jeremiah 26:20)
I was forthright in my speech, bravely telling the people of Jerusalem to repent, for God was willing to give them a second chance. King Jehoiakim did not appreciate my words, and wanted me dead. I had two choices: I could stand my ground or run. I chose the latter. I was afraid and hid out in Egypt. The decision cost me my life.
When life is in jeopardy, it seems logical that a person would become frightened, but instead of seeking God's advice, I took matters into my own hands. I could have depended on God's grace to save me, but my fearful feelings took control. I did not live up to my calling. With opposition closing in, I swayed. I didn't retract my statements regarding repentance to the Lord, but I was still afraid, and showed it by running away. Instead of standing up for my Godly principles, I caved.
Lord, Let me stay on track and finish the course. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
What can you learn from Urijah? How will you aspire not to be an Urijah?
