[CF Devotionals] 2011-06-06 - What Would Cornelius Say?

Acts 10:3-8, 23-48

The angel said, Your prayers and neighborly acts have brought you to God's attention. (Acts 10:6)

My family and I believed in and obeyed God. We helped those in need and prayed regularly. It was a way of life to put God first. One afternoon, during my normal time of prayer, God spoke to me in an amazing way, through an angel. I kid you not.

At first, I admit I was scared, but the experience is something I didn’t take lightly, and I wasted no time in doing what the angel said, to send for a man named Peter, staying in Joppa by the sea. I didn’t know this man, and wondered what he could tell me. I sent messengers to fetch Peter. The men were to tell Peter I was a man who loved God, of good reputation, and how an angel told me to send for him to come to my home. I gathered close friends and relatives to meet Peter. This was a celebration. I wanted the important people in my life to also partake and be a witness.

The moment finally came, when Peter and my messengers arrived. As soon as I met Peter, I fell to my feet in worship. Peter, in humility, immediately put a stop to this. Peter talked from personal experience on what God was doing in his life, and what he witnessed as one of the Lord’s disciples.

I still couldn’t get over this Godly man was in my home. This man’s knowledge and experience were vast. He personally knew Jesus. The stories he could tell! As Peter was speaking, the Holy Spirit fell on the room.

Peter told all of us how every person is equal in the sight of God. This was evident when my guests fell under the Holy Spirit’s power. God isn’t a respecter of persons; Peter is right about that. He didn’t see any reason why those in attendance couldn’t or shouldn’t be baptized, and he stayed with us a few days. What an unexpected treat, to have Peter in my home. What started as an ordinary day of prayer turned into something life-changing not only for me, but my friends and family.

Lord, I worship Your holy name. I can hardly contain my enthusiasm on what You are about to do in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

What do you think angels look like?
