2012-01-14 - Trusting God
When the Israelites left Egypt on their great Exodus, they soon approached the Red Sea. By that time, the Egyptians had changed their minds on giving the Israelites freedom - and were pursuing them with horses, chariots, and numerous troops. As the fleeing people of God approached the Red Sea, they were in a panic. How would they get across the great expanse of water? Would they be overrun by the angry Egyptian army?
Exodus 14:10 tells us that "They were terrified and cried out to the Lord." (NIV) We are also told that they became upset with Moses and doubted his leadership. God gave Moses instructions on how to use his staff to part the Red Sea. The nation of Israel made it safely through to the other side, and the Egyptians were drowned.
"And when the Israelites saw the great power the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Him and in Moses His servant." (Exodus 14:31, NIV) The people put their trust in God. What does it take for us to put our trust in God today? Do we need a miraculous parting of the Sea?
Jesus tells us that we are to "trust in God; trust also in me." (John 14:1, NIV) Jesus also tells us that "I am the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6, NIV) We are to put our trust in the One Who came to die for our sins. Will you trust in Him today?
