[CF Devotionals] 2012-02-17 - Being Positive

I keep a few folders of old ideas and things that I look over for ideas on what to write about when I don't have an idea clearly in my head already. This week was one of those searching weeks. As I was looking over ideas to write today's devotional, I ran across a piece that I wrote way back in October of 2001 - long before I started writing for Christian Fellowship. Back then I had my own little Yahoo group of readers and I was celebrating that there was a total of twelve readers. Yes that included myself (two of my email accounts actually) and my mom but I was still excited about getting to write. I thought it was worth revising so I hope you will enjoy it.

I am practicing being more positive so along those lines I want to share this little tidbit I came across. I believe it was written by Max Lucado.

A POSITIVE THOUGHT: If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring, and a sunrise every morning. Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen. He could live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart. What about the Christmas gift He sent you in Bethlehem - not to mention that Friday at Calvary? Face it; He's crazy about you.

If you stop and think about that it is really like "WOW, I am somebody to God". In fact, there are no nobodies to Him. Even the smallest and weakest is someone special. Look at the little widow woman who had two mites. She was no one special in human eyes but God has used her as an example for us to follow for the last 2000 years. What about the adulterer brought before Jesus at the temple or the woman at the well? In all three cases these were women. In those days women were basically property and these two were bad women but God has used them to teach others lessons for 2000 years as well. We don't have to be big and powerful God loves us just the way we are.

If the world ignores or adores you, if people love you or love to hate you, even if society has given up on you: Jesus loves you. I sing a little song to my children occasionally that is actually as popular with older adults as it is with children I believe. It goes like this.

Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but he is strong
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
For the Bible tells me so

What a simple song and it is just as true for 1 year olds, 30 year olds, and 97 year olds.

Romans 8:38,39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The world this verse talks of is me. That world is also you. That whosoever is me too. That whosoever is you as well.

For God so loved {insert your name here} that he gave his only begotten Son that if {insert your name here} believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. How can you not be positive with great news like that?

Let's all rejoice and praise God for all his blessings!
