2012-03-27 - Rusty Pumps
Richard and I enjoy watching a television show entitled "American Restoration," and recently the "stars" of the show found a rusty pump along their journey. My instinctive reaction was "ugh, a piece of junk that should be taken to a dump." But to these guys, it was a treasure, something they could restore to its original glory. And that, they did (As usual, they did fantastic work.). I looked at the rusty pump and saw ugliness and trash; they looked at it and saw something worthwhile, with potential.
There's a lesson there. God looks at us the same way. No matter what we or our loved ones or friends or acquaintances have done, no matter what situation we are in, no matter how ugly our lives seem to be - He can make our / their lives beautiful, if we repent (in behavior, not just at the altar) and open our heart and lives to Him.
"And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart." Ezek 36:26 NLT
Pain-free? No way. (See Jesus, Paul, martyred missionaries et al.) Perfect? Not until we arrive in Heaven. But - if God can use a doubter like Thomas, a coward like Peter or a murderer like Paul He can use us, as well.
