2012-06-18 - What Would a Son Say?
Happy Father's Day!
So he got up and went to his father. "But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." (Luke 15:20)
I wanted to spend my father's inheritance early, on my terms. Eventually, I admit I fell into the trap of wanting to experience total freedom and pleasure. I found myself alone, hungry, and broke. I spent all my money on the evils of life. I didn't realize it would only leave me temporally happy.
I had the world at my disposal, but with no money or food, my new friends deserted me. I never imagined money could vanish so quickly. What did I have to show for my times of fun? Basking in the scents of swines. I got a job with a local farmer to feed the pigs; even the pigs' food looked good to my starving body.
I swallowed my pride and returned home. Because of my mistakes, I was willing to be a hired hand for my father, and forgo life as his son. Before I could utter a word upon returning home, Dad embraced me and welcomed me back, even throwing a party in my honor. His forgiveness still amazes me.
Lord, my Father, Thank You for giving me a second chance and helping me to face my mistakes.I turn my life over to You and ask that You remember my past no more. I am a new person because of Jesus dying on the cross for me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
