2012-08-27 - What Would Stephen Say?
Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. (Acts 6:8)
God has poured out His power and grace on me, and through Him, I performed miracles. Opposition stepped in, and people found others to lie about me, saying I spoke against God and Moses. Anyone who knows me recognizes that claim is totally unfounded. Blasphemous.I had no recourse. I was dragged in front of the court; it was not a fair trial. How could it be, when the claims were manufactured? How would this help Jesus' cause? I remained calm, or attempted to be calm.
What else could I do? It was God they were truly fighting. I was just His representative. Even Jesus was unjustly persecuted. When I was asked if these accusations were accurate, I did not answer yes or no - but took the opportunity to give a history of what God did for Abraham, Joseph, and Moses - to show that the people in that day resisted the Holy Spirit as my present accusers do now.
My words did not convince them of their harsh behavior. I looked up to Heaven and saw God's glory, and Jesus standing at God's right and told the people what I saw. It was amazing, too amazing to keep to myself.
Perhaps this miracle could to turn their disbelief into belief, but I was wrong. Instead, they ran me out of town and stoned me.
Lord, Help me to be comfortable with my role in life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
