2012-11-19 - What Would Peter Say?
Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16 NIV)
I have always been known as Simon Peter. Simon Peter the fisherman, Simon Peter, brother of Andrew, son of Jonah, and Simon Peter the disciple. Today I have a new name, Peter, meaning rock.
Jesus changed my name after I answered a question of His. Jesus asked us disciples who people said He was. Some answered John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or another prophet returned to Earth. Jesus then asked us who we thought He was.
Jesus was more than a prophet. I answered first and said Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus loved my answer. He blessed me for my response, for it didn't come from mere human knowledge, but that I was being open to God. He said I was the rock His church would be built on.
What an honor! May I be open to the opportunities God has in store for me.
Lord, You have a successful future planned for me. One filled with Your protection, provision, and grace. May I not let my thoughts, feelings, or past interfere with Your plans. Thank You that You take care of me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
