2013-04-29 - What Would Jethro Say?
Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. (Exodus 18:24)
I heard such wonderful things about Moses, my son-in-law, I just had to see for myself. I took Zipporah and the kids to see Moses. Moses told me the trials they encountered, and how God delivered the people out of it all. I got to meet Aaron and the leaders of Israel and ate with them. It was a glorious trip.
The next morning, I could not believe what I was hearing and seeing. All these people were complaining to Moses, day and night. Moses should not waste his time listening to such nonsense talk. I told him so. Moses needed someone to help with the task. He didn't need this unnecessary burden. I offered him advice, though he did not ask for it. I hated him to be run through the ground unnecessarily.
Moses needed to appoint some honest and trustworthy judges to counsel the people. The judges would review issues on a minor scale, and anything complex and important would be brought to Moses' attention. I bet this would bring more peace and harmony to the camp, not to mention relieving Moses. Moses listened and took my advice. Things fell into place, just as I said. My work was done, and I headed back home.
Lord, Thank You for the insight of others. Help me to weed out the bad judgment from good wisdom. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
