2013-05-01 - What Would Peter Say?
With his wife's full knowledge, he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet. (Acts 5:2 NIV)
People were afraid, when they heard about the outcome of Ananias and Sapphira, and with good reason. People did not want the same fate as the lying couple of Ananias and Sapphira, may they rest in peace. Their tale shows us not to test God, or to lie, but to show holy reverence to the Lord.
Ananias and Sapphira sold a piece of property and gave an offering from the sale, claiming it was for the full amount of the sale. In truth, they kept some of the money for themselves.
The couple was given a second chance when I confronted them, but their hard hearts would not budge, and the two died. The truly sad part is that the couple didn't have to lie. Ironically, they never got to enjoy the extra money they were keeping for themselves.
Lord, don't let me fall into the same trap as Ananias and Sapphira. I pray for those who do not change their minds. Please give them practical insights into the right ways to behave, and help them change before it is too late. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
