2013-06-29 - God's Love for Us
Deuteronomy 2:7 "The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through the vast desert. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything." (NIV)
The people of Israel left Egypt, on the way to the Promised Land. The trip should have taken two or three weeks. Instead, the journey lasted 40 years. The people of Israel rebelled against God and wanted to return to Egypt. God vowed that those who rebelled would not enter the Promised Land. Yet, God still showed His love, by safely guiding them on their travels through the desert for forty years. They were protected from hunger and enemies. Even though they had doubted God and turned away from Him, God still loved them.
Today, we sometimes doubt God and rebel. We turn away from His commands and instructions. We try to go our own way. Yet God still loves us. He even sent His son to die for our sins. When we are discouraged and downhearted, we can remember that, just as God loved and cared for the wandering Israelites many years ago, He loves and cares for us today.
