2013-07-17 - What Would King David Say?
When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. (1 Kings 2:1)
At the end of my life, I told my son Solomon a few things. I wanted to make sure he stayed strong and kept God's commandments. This way, my boy would prosper, and God's promise would be fulfilled. The Lord told me if my descendants walk faithfully before Him, there would always be a relative on the throne.
I also told Solomon to watch out for enemies Joab and Shimei. My son should be kind to the sons of Barzillai of Gilead, who showed me kindness when I was on the run.
I just hope Solomon takes my advice. I can tell he is listening to my words, unless he is just nodding in the right places and looking interested. I know what it is like to be king; beyond the prestige are mounds of responsibility.
I just want my son to succeed and achieve God's Holy plan for him and the next generations. I am grateful his mother Bathsheba will be able to see him rule from the throne. She can show parental pride for the both of us, when I am in God's glorious presence in Heaven.
Lord, I seek Your wisdom before making any decisions. May I never hesitate about talking to You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
