No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out, so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Apostle Paul sent us Corinthians a letter on how to live better. You are probably familiar with the idea that sinning is bad, as it displeases God and separates you from Him. We hear a lot about what not to do. It's great to know where God stands on certain issues, but how do you not sin? Heaven forbid you fall into temptation, what happens then? Can you ever look at yourself the same? Will God?
Temptation is not a new concept. You may find yourself in a place you aren't normally tempted, and then you fail. God gives us a way out, but we have to obey and love Him more than the present moment.
While I clearly felt God telling me to give up something, I did not immediately. What will it hurt? I tried to rationalize. Once I obeyed, however, I gained the knowledge that I can tell my flesh no and can still survive. The act of obedience also renewed my commitment and reverence to God.
Lord, I know I shouldn't let destructive thoughts take over. I quickly reread Your words in the Bible, to get my mind back into right thinking. Thank You for leaving us Your Word, to use against deceptiveness and harm. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
How does it feel when you choose what is right and Godly, over convenience and the mainstream?
Ask God His design for you, and what realistic goals He is seeking for you. May you be encouraged by His insights.
