Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out. And he was named Zerah. (Genesis 38:30)
Did you ever wonder why you were given your particular set of parents? I have. Mine aren't exactly typical. My father is also my grandfather! My mother (Tamar) is my father's (Judah) daughter-in-law. Gross--I know.
My parents love me and treat me well. Still, there are times I wonder why they did not get it, why they did not understand where I was coming from. My twin brother says that's the way it is with all parents. I'm not totally convinced.
Perez didn't let his lineage bother him. It was a non-issue, as far as he was concerned. It was good I had him to talk to about my frustrations, but he was more concerned with getting ahead, being first. He was always like that from the time he was born, my mother says.
Now that I am a father of five sons I see how hard parenting can be. I want to be there for my boys, to be involved in their lives. I trust that my past experiences and background can encourage and enlighten them on the road of life.
