2013-09-21 - The Disciples ~ Andrew
The Disciples Series ~ Part 2
Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. John 1:40-42 (NIV)
Today we look at the second of Jesus' Disciples - Andrew. This Disciple, like several others, was a fisherman by trade. Andrew was a follower of John the Baptist, and left John to follow Jesus. Andrew led his brother, Simon Peter, to Jesus. Andrew developed a reputation for leading people to Jesus. When Jesus fed the crowd of five thousand, it was Andrew who brought the boy with the two fish and five barley loaves to Jesus. In John 12:20-23, we find the story of some Greeks who were anxious to meet Jesus, and Andrew was the one who led them to Jesus.
After Jesus' death and ascension, Andrew became a missionary and helped spread the Gospel. He brought others to Christ. Andrew was crucified as a martyr for the Gospel - on an X-shaped cross.
Like Andrew, we too can lead people to Christ. We can share the Good News of the Gospel with those searching for meaning in life. Who will you bring to Christ today?
Series to be continued.
