[CF Devotionals] 2013-10-09 - Plan When You Can

- - - - - - -

I have always tried to plan ahead in situations, when it was at all possible. I guess that comes from my upbringing, and then later was reinforced as a young adult. Now realizing we all sometimes find ourselves in situations in which we’re running late, however, the way I was raised likely accounts for the fact I have little patience for people not even attempting to plan and even showing blatant disregard for others who want to do so. And after many years of dealing with some different chronic pain issues, I find that now I have a completely different view of planning ahead. I don’t often get to do much of it anymore. I find that I do much better if I get everyday type chores done as soon as possible, so as not to be worn out later.

Anything else I can or would like to do is a toss-up after the chores and that's the best I can now do on planning ahead. I make lists, but have to realize on any given day, I may not be able to complete them. I suppose not being able to plan as much is giving me a perspective in which I would never “choose” to view anything.

Spontaneity can be a good thing, as well as living in each moment and not being able to work off too much of a list. There needs to be a balance between planning when you can, and organizing too much and leaving no room for Heavenly possibilities.

So while I may sometimes get frustrated by what I may not be able to do or plan to do, I am learning that reliance is the most important thing, and whatever is supposed to be finished by me will get done. I need to do what I can, and leave the rest to the One who gives me strength.

“The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusted in him, and I AM helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song, I will praise him.” (Psalm 28:7 KJV)
