Matt 17:20 (NASB) And He said to them, Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
In today's world it is easy, even for people of faith, to become cynical.
Yesterday evening I barely breathed as I read an article discussing a new Supreme Court ruling. I was stunned that the decision that had been handed down was so clearly favorable. The case involved what have been called "In Jesus' Name" prayers. The court ruled 5-4 basically saying that no branch of our government could dictate the content of a public prayer. While the margin of the ruling is not strong, even the dissenting voices were clear that prayer should not be removed from public life.
In light of other rulings from various courts and from the legislature public prayer and worship has taken a beating. Recent language used by politicians and activist alike included "freedom to worship", rather than "freedom of religion", implying that the practice of religion should be limited to private life or to places of worship. I will admit I was holding my breath for more bad news.
I had faded to cynical. Oh me of little faith.
God moves today as He has in the past. He will eventually allow humanity to completely turn their collective backs on Him. But for today we have been given a reminder. God is in control. He calls to the nations - often through us. His handiwork is still a visible fingerprint with a witness for all to see. We have our orders to go into all the world and be witnesses for our Lord.
Don't give up.
Lord, Please forgive me when I falter in trusting that Your plans and timing will not be denied. Thank you for this reminder to trust that, while the hour is well past bright midday, there is still time. There are more than will gladly hear Your call. Keep your church marching. Amen.
