Spiritual Gifts

- - - - - - -

Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4 contain the major lists of spiritual gifts. There are a plethora of spiritual gift tests – both in print and online – so if you've not taken a test in more than a few years, I would encourage you to take one, to help you discover your spiritual gift or gifts. Today I simply want to give you an overview of some of the most commonly used within the church.

Administration is a gift that helps with planning, organizing, and supervising people or projects.

Evangelism is the gift of gab, when it comes to sharing the gospel. We are all called to be evangelists, but some are more gifted in this area than others are.

Exhortation is the ability to encourage and/or comfort people.

Giving is a gift that gives you the desire to share your resources with others.

Mercy is the ability to feel sympathy and care for others, when they are hurting.

Pastoring is the gift to raise others spiritually, as it were – protecting, correcting, leading and feeding.

Prophecy is the ability to proclaim God's word to his people. This is not an ability to predict the future.

Service is a heart to do even mundane task, simply because they need to be done.

Teaching is a gift that enables you to instruct others.

Discover what gifts you have, and use them to serve God. Romans 12:6 (NASB) instructs us to do so saying, "Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly." Paul elaborates in this some, to the church at Corinth, saying, "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." (1 Corinthians 12:4-7 NASB)
