[CF Devotionals] 2014-10-11 - Decisions

- - - - - - -

In Acts Chapter 24, we find the story of the Apostle Paul appearing before Felix, who was the Roman governor of Judea. Paul had been brought before Felix by the Jews in Jerusalem. At his trial, Paul was accused of being a troublemaker, a riot leader, a desecrator of the Temple, and a leader of the Way.

Paul stated that he was a fellow Jew who believed in Jesus' resurrection. Felix heard all the testimony and agreed to decide the case. Then something strange happened. Governor Felix met with Paul on several occasions, to hear Paul's testimony about his faith in Jesus Christ. Paul told Felix about the need for righteousness, self-control, and the judgement to come. Acts 24:25 says, "Felix was afraid and said, 'That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you." (NIV)

Paul's testimony had an effect on the Governor. Felix was afraid. Hearing of righteousness, self-control, and the judgement, Felix looked at his life and was filled with fear. Paul told Felix about Jesus. Felix needed to make a decision whether to continue in his sinful ways, or to follow Christ. Sadly, although he was a wise and honest ruler, Felix decided not to listen to Paul, and did not accept Jesus as his Savior. Felix kept Paul in prison for two more years before Felix was recalled to Rome. Felix also never decided Paul's court case; he passed Paul along to his successor.

What about you? Will you accept Christ today? Will you leave your sins behind and receive forgiveness? Or will you pass on a decision? How long will you wait?
