[Calvary Chapel] 2014-10-16 - Prayer From the Heart

- - - - - - -

1 Tim 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,

Over the last few days the motivation to prayer has been on my heart. What causes us to go to our knees in prayer, literally or figuratively. When do we walk into the throne room of Heaven and bring our praise, thanks or concerns to the Lord?

Very often I go when something concerns me. It may be for myself or someone else, friend or foe. Yesterday the trip into my office hit every light green or very shortly before the light turned green. My heart was impressed that this was no coincidence. I had incorrectly set my alarm for PM instead of AM and I was going to be late, and I was not. I had resigned myself to being late and help came unasked. Immediately I thanked the Lord for getting me there on time.

Later that day and today there were reminders of things taken for granted. My trip had gone safely. My wife got up immediately and laid out clothes for me while I showered without being asked. There were other things that might seem small, but they were blessings none the less.

There are the big news items: lost airliners or crashes, serious health crisis, avalanche, earthquake, major storms, etc. that grab our attention very quickly. They drive many of us to prayer. God works out His will through all things both great and small. This brings 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to mind where we are instructed to pray without ceasing. When all the "little things" in our days are recognized for the blessings that they are this more easily becomes possible.

Selah.

Lord Jesus - Open our eyes and ears to the blessings You shower down on us like snow - if we will take the time to recognize them. Give us thankful hearts and minds. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
