2014-11-08 - The Storms of Life
In Luke 8:22-25, we find the story of Jesus calming the storm which came upon the Disciples while they were in a boat crossing the Sea of Galilee. Jesus had fallen asleep, when the storm approached the little boat. The Disciples were frightened and feared that the boat would sink. Due to their anxiety, they roused Jesus from His sleep, explaining that they were afraid they would drown. Jesus rebuked the storm and had a question for His Disciples. He asked, "Where is your faith?" (Luke 8:25, NIV)
We frequently encounter the storms of life. We face illness, job loss, financial difficulty, and other crises. Some storms in life we expect, but many occur without warning. How do we react to these storms? Do we respond with faith? Do we trust God to help us through the storms? Psalm 72:12-13 says, "For He will deliver the needy who cry out; the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy, and save the needy from death." (NIV)
We are to call on God during the storms of our lives, and He will be with us, as we face the tough times in our lives.
Staying ready means staying close to Jesus. We stay close to Him by talking to Him and studying His Word, by worshipping Him regularly, by listening to the Holy Spirit's guidance, and by relying on Him.
