2015-02-21 - A Place of Refuge
Many people in the U.S. have recently been affected by winter weather. Some residents of our state have been without power for several days. Facing record low temperatures, they have sought refuge in emergency shelters set up by the state. These places of refuge provide heat, food, bedding, and a place to rest.
In our Christian walk, we often face storms in life. We deal with job loss, illness, death, and loneliness. Where do we seek refuge? In Psalm 31, David was facing a storm in his life. David's friends and relatives had conspired to overthrow him. He felt alone. Where did he turn? David turned to God, saying, "How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow on those who take refuge in you." (Psalm 31:19)
Just as David turned to God for refuge, today, we can turn to God for refuge too. He is always available. His Holy Spirit lives within us, to comfort us and give us strength.
