2015-03-07 - Preparing for Easter
2 Corinthians 5:14-15
"For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again."
The period leading up to Easter is traditionally called Lent by many church denominations. Lent is considered a time of reflection, study, denial, repentance, helping others, and sacrifice. We are encouraged to look into our hearts and prepare them for Holy Week and Easter. We are supposed to think about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us on the Cross. Lent is a time to consider the path that Jesus walked, as he prepared for His final days on earth.
One way to get ready for Easter, is to look at some of the hymns that speak to us of Lent and Easter. Just a few songs that we can read and think about are as follows: "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go," "Alas and Did My Savior Bleed," "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross," The Old Rugged Cross," "Were You There?", "Christ the Lord is Risen Today," "He Arose/Christ Arose/Low in the Grave He Arose," and "He Lives,."
May we take time from our busy schedules, to reflect on what Jesus faced with the Cross before Him.
