[CF Devotionals] 2015-03-12 - He Loved Us First

- - - - - - -

1 Corinthians 6:11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

These are works of great comfort for those who believe in Christ Jesus as Lord. Through no act on our part but surrender to Him have we become made worthy in the eyes of the Father. We were the lost sheep out of the herd that the Shepherd left the others to find and return to safety. We were the ones He loved while we were still His enemies.

The statement of fact - Such were some of you where none of us can argue our innocence in our own strength. But … the word that changes everything about that original convicting statement. What happened is the blood that Jesus shed for us on the cross. He took on Himself the sin of all mankind. In that action He bore the wrath of God that belonged to each one of us.

That a king would die for his subjects is the world's logic turned on its head. But God knew that we were helpless on our own. He did what had to be done to redeem us and bring us home. He loved us first. Think about that today as you walk the narrow road.

Selah.

Lord - thank You for making a way for us. Thank you for Your sacrifice on our behalf. You have called us to follow You, which is the very least we can do in gratitude. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
Mike
