2015-06-11 - Be Faithful
Revelation 2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
This is one of those passages that many of us would like to see happen in the future. Reality is that the passage reflects past, present and future. How far into the future depends on how long the Lord delays in coming back. Christians among others have been targets of terrorist groups in numbers that make headlines in the news today.
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. That can be tough medicine, but put the thought in the balance against another thought. Through the centuries to the present day those of us who name Jesus as our Savior have been told to recant and repent, or to deny Christ and follow some other path or die. Christians have been burned at the stake in the name of the church by misled people as blasphemers or other accusations. Untold numbers of believers have chosen to honor their Savior trusting His ability to bring them safely home to Heaven.
How would we react? Jesus letter dictated to the Apostle John to the church at Smyrna encourages them. This looks beyond the suffering to the promises He gave to believers of being met as we open our eyes after leaving this life by Jesus Himself. (John 14:3)
If a pardon issued in the brief span of this life is laid against eternity with the Lord Who loved us enough to die in our place the choice becomes far clearer. Paul and Silas sang hymns at midnight in prison praising God. Look in Revelation chapter six where martyrs petition the Lamb at the opening of the fifth seal.
Selah - stop and consider. There are people who are brothers and sisters in our faith who are put at the point of a weapon asked to deny Christ. We who are at least currently spared this trial need to pray for them. It is easy to have the concerns of the day push them aside in our memory. Prayer warriors, please add them to your list to remember them to the Lord and encourage others.
John 14:3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
Grace & Peace,
