[CF Devotionals] 2015-06-17 - Strength

- - - - - - -

I was working with some free-hand weights the other day, trying to begin the process of building some strength in my arms and shoulders, and was then also reminded of the need for building spiritual strength. While we need to take care of our physical bodies as much as we are able, to have these vessels used most effectively, the same goes for our spiritual life. In both cases, resistance builds strength. When we don”t challenge our body muscles they will not grow and eventually atrophy will set in.

This is also true of our spiritual strength. We need to challenge ourselves with the word. We should study it, dive into it asking for wisdom, discover all God has for us - as well as try to develop memory of these concepts and words, so we can call on them in times of need for us and others around us. As we challenge ourselves, and repeat these patterns, we will soon find more of God”s truth coming to our mind when we need it. It is part of calling on the name of the Lord, knowing what he put down in the Bible, for us to know Him and his thoughts. I am so grateful for God and his word.

“My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” (Psalm 119:28)

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.” (Hebrews 12:11-13)

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29)

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”(Romans 10:13)
