[CF Devotionals] 2015-07-10 - Where Will You Spend Eternity?

- - - - - - -

John 14:3 “And If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”

Jesus was talking to His disciples when He said this. The “place” He was talking about was Heaven. Revelations 21:3-4 says, “And I heard a loud voice from Heaven say, “Behold, the Tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes: there shall be no more deaths, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” This is a word picture of Heaven. That begs the question of how does a person get to Heaven?

The answer is that you must be a follower of Jesus, a disciple. Why? Roman 10:9 says, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised Him for the dead you will be saved.” This means that if you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior (become a disciple), you will be spending eternity in Heaven instead of in Hell.

However, if you are not one of His disciples when your life on Earth is over, you have the following to look forward to. Revelations 21:8 says, “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murders, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” This is a word picture of Hell in the Bible.

You may, especially if you are under the age of 30 and not a follower of Jesus, think what I have just told you makes sense, but you will check this disciple thing out later. Let me tell you, folks, it is only through the grace of God that you took that last breath of air. I say this because in the Book of Daniel 5:23 Daniel told King Belshazzar “… And the God who holds your breath in His hand ….”

Yes, God is the One who handed you that last breath of air that you breathed as you read this, and only He knows how many more breaths you have left, until He closes His hand and says, “That is enough.” Am I trying to scare you? No. I am just telling you like it is. You have two choices of where you will spend eternity, and they are Heaven or Hell.

It is really simple to get into Heaven. All you have to do is confess with your mouth that you are a sinner, and believe in your heart that Christ died for your sins, was buried and rose again three days later. You then repent of your sins, and ask Him to forgive you of them and to come into your heart as Lord and Savior.

It is even simpler to get into Hell. Just ignore God’s free gift of Heaven that I just explained to you.

I imagine that the majority of the subscribers to this site are Christian, and have their mansions waiting for them in Heaven, but what about your friends and neighbors? Are you going solo, or have you told them about this wonderful gift that God wants to give them?

Father, I thank you for allowing a sinner like me to call you my God and Father. Father please remind us daily that we were put on this Earth not only to praise and worship you, but also to tell others what Jesus has done for us and wants to do for them. I say all this in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

In Christian Love,
Rodney
