2015-07-11 - Repentance
Mark 1:4-5 And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
John the Baptist attracted a crowd. People went out into the countryside, to see this strangely-dressed man. John wore clothing made of camel's hair, with a leather belt. He ate locusts and wild honey. People wanted to see this man. John made the most of the opportunity to speak to the crowd. John told them that they needed to repent from their sins and seek forgiveness. Everyone who heard John was a sinner, and needed to ask God for forgiveness.
Today, we still need to repent and seek forgiveness. We are all sinners and even if we have been saved for eternity, we need to ask God for forgiveness regularly. We may not have to venture into the desert to hear a strange-looking man preach. But we can seek out God in the quiet of our own house, in the presence of others in a church, or in a private conversation with someone we trust. Have you repented?
