2015-09-03 - Bind Up Their Wounds
Psalm 147:3 (NIV) He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
I have seen people who have been hurt with words, often betrayed by someone they trusted. Note the past tense. Often it will take time before trust is earned again. Even with forgiveness there is not always trust in the relationship again.
When asked indirectly by the scribes of the Pharisees why He was spending time with tax collectors and sinners He replied:
Mark 2:17 And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
My rough translation - Why am I here doing your job?
Today I had the opportunity to do the job Jesus gave us. I found one of my friends eyes full of tears and angry because of how they had been treated. I was able to sit with them and listen as they vented some of the anger and hurt. My friend had become the man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho who was beaten by robbers. I was able to be the Samaritan offering an ear and support.
The world is a very fickle, broken place today. Christ sent His twelve disciples out to heal the sick and deliver the gospel to a world starving for truth. Sounds a little like today to my ears. Some times the best thing we can offer is a listening ear as the beginning of building bridges and paving the road that leads others to the Truth and salvation - new birth.
Let's be lights we are called to be in a very dim world.
Matt 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Lord Jesus - Like individual drops of rain in a storm send out the church to a world that has lost the meaning of truth. People hunger for things with substance instead of thin lies and fads. As You have treated us with compassion help us to reflect that light to others that may open doors to share the good news of your salvation and change the world one heart at at time. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
