With World Communion Sunday approaching, we present a 2011 devotional about the Bread of Life.
In John 6:35, Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." The crowds had been following Jesus, after seeing His miracles. They asked Him for a miraculous sign, so that they might believe in Him. The crowd reminded Jesus that their ancestors had been fed the bread of manna during Moses' time. They expected that the Messiah would serve them manna again.
Jesus then told them that He was the bread of life. Jesus was much more than physical bread to eat. He was better than manna; He was the bread of eternal life. Those that believed in Jesus would be with Him forever.
These Scriptures show us that the most important thing to seek in life is not physical but spiritual. We should seek the Bread of Life, who came to bring us home to Him.
