Awhile back, I was passing out Christian literature, and a man approached me and stated, “I do not believe in God.” Because of the location, I could not respond as I wanted too, so all I said was, “That is your choice.” However, what I wanted to say was, “Really! Then where did the Earth, stars, the moon and man come from?” If I had posed that question, I imagine that the following conversation would have ensued.
“I believe that the earth came about because of the explosion of matter millions of years ago.”
“I have heard of it. You are talking about the Big Bang Theory. What I understand about the theory is that the earth, planets, and stars came about because somewhere in space, there was a so-called “black hole” where some type of material called singularity was compressed by the pressure from gravity, so hard that it eventually exploded. As a result of the explosion, the universe came into being.”
“That is pretty close to how it happened.”
“And you believe that the earth with its life-sustaining oxygen and water also is a result of this explosion.”
“I disagree with this theory. I believe that the triune God of the Bible created the earth, with the oxygen and water as part of it, and then the sun, and the moon as well as the stars and the planets. Then He created man.
“I don’t. I believe that man evolved over millions of years, from a single cell into what he is today.”
“Where did the cell come from?”
“I don’t know, but that is the way it happened.”
“So what you are telling is that a single cell multiplied itself by itself - and became man - who is made up of between 5-20 billion cells.”
“Yes. It started out as a single cell, and then grew into man”
“How did it feed itself, while it was growing into man?”
“I don’t know.”
“Let me enlighten you. Before God made man and the animals He created grasses, herbs, and fruit trees that would sustain His creations. After the food was present He then created the sea creatures, the birds, and also cattle and every creeping thing, and then made man to reign over them. That is what His word, the Bible, tells me - but then again, maybe your single cell branched out and evolved not only into man, but also evolved into fish, birds, cattle, and other creatures and did not need nourishment while it was doing it.”
“You can say what you want to, but I know that I am right.”
As I walked away, I would end the conversation by saying, “Well, Mister Right, let me give you a final thought to ponder. My God breathed the breath of life into His creation, and it became a living soul. How did your man receive his soul?”
